Benefits of an Additional Gel Mat or Gel Mat Covers

In this article, we would like to share a bit about how an additional gel mattress or our gel mat covers can benefit hospitals. 

Each Caring Cradle unit comes with one gel mat. The gel mats are designed to cool while lying flat on the bottom of the bassinet. Once the Cradle is plugged in, it is ready for use in 30 minutes. It will cool with the unit as it is readying for use. One of the things that makes our gel mats unique compared to other cooling bassinets is that they are designed to have no attachments. Meaning, they can be swaddled, without any hoses. This allows families to walk freely or pass their infant around the room.  

While the gel mattress remains cool for several hours, some facilities choose to purchase at least one additional gel mat. The benefit of an additional gel mat is that it allows one mattress to cool while another is in use. Allowing seamless transitions for families to hold their infant longer.  

We learned that many nurses were using Chux around the infants. (Chux are disposable absorbent under pads that are designed to protect surfaces from bodily fluids or leaks during medical procedures). But while the Chuxs work in a pinch, we do not recommend them, as it does not allow the cooling of the gel mat to work at its optimal capacity.  

We intended for the Caring Cradles to have zero “consumable” products. But as we grew and received feedback, we knew that additional accessories would be beneficial to hospitals. But aligning with our intentions, our disposable covers are optional. You can use the gel mats without the covers, but many hospitals appreciate that option and have chosen to purchase the disposable covers exclusively.
